On the fourth anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, the gay bar known as the Upstairs Lounge was set fire to by an arsonist. There was only one entrance and one exit, the wooden stairs were covered in lighter fluid and set ablaze. Twenty-nine people died in the club, and another three died from injuries, making a total of thirty-two individuals who perished from the incident.
